Step-by-Step 3M Fibrlok Splicing in a Junction Box
  1. Prepare the Fiber: Strip the fiber coating carefully, clean the bare fiber, and cleave it to a precise length. Proper preparation is critical to minimize splice loss .
  2. Insert Fiber into Fibrlok Splice: Place the cleaved fiber into the Fibrlok splice body. The metallic splicing element inside the molded plastic body holds the fiber securely .
  3. Actuate the Splice: Close the cap to lock the fiber in place. The index-matching gel fills the interface, reducing back reflection and insertion loss .
  4. Test the Splice: Use an optical power meter or OTDR to verify low-loss connection and proper alignment.
  5. Secure in Junction Box: Place the spliced fibers in the junction box tray or holder. Use adhesive-backed holders or VHBTM tape to prevent movement and protect against mechanical stress .
  6. Protect the Splice: Ensure the junction box is sealed to prevent moisture, dust, and temperature fluctuations from affecting the splice. Proper closure ensures long-term reliability .
